News From Mrs. Bakke's, Mrs. Lund's, and Mr. Krupa's Room

  • Reading:  Some of the main reading skills we will be practicing next week include analyze/evaluate, fluency intonation, and theme.  We will also be working on mis- and non- prefixes.  Students are doing a fabulous job on their reading logs!  The more practice they get the better readers they will become:)  New reading logs went home today.
Grammar/Social/Science:  One of the grammar skills we will be practicing next week will be subject and verb agreement.  Agreement means that the sentence parts match.  The subject of a sentence must match the verb. A singular subject needs a singular verb. Plural subjects need a plural verb. We will be locating and identifying the seven continents and four oceans. The students will need to learn how to spelling them correctly.  One helpful hint is N, S, E, and 4A's.  In other words, North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, and Antarctica.  On Friday, we will be heading to Saint Paul for our Paddleboat ride.  Remember to pack a bag lunch and dress for the weather!

  • Math: This week, we will continue to work on perimeter and area.  We will relate the formulas we learned for the perimeter and area of rectangles to the formulas for the perimeter and area of parallelograms and complex figures.  Students will have homework Tuesday and Wednesday this week.  We will do the unit review on Thursday and test on Friday.  Please continue to practice basic facts 5-10 minutes each night.
