4th Grade Concert News - We're looking forward to seeing you in the gym on Thursday @ 5:15 PM

We're All Safe and Sound!!! Thanks Everybody!!!

Police informed us this morning they received an anonymous bomb threat from an in individual who was considered non credible. Police believe this person has made numerous, false bomb threats over the last few months to various organizations in Central Minnesota.

The police did not deem the threat credible, but our school district policies and procedures were followed as a precaution.

We worked collaboratively with law enforcement and had minimal disruption.

Students in Mississippi Heights and Pleasantview were brought to the gym until the areas had been declared safe by law enforcement.

Student safety remains our number one concern.

All areas have been determined safe and students are now back in class.

Thank you to everyone involved.

Superintendent

Greek Mythology

Just wanted to keep you informed after our meeting today. It went really well. The kids seemed really excited and most of them knew more than I thought they would about Greek Mythology. It is going to be a fun group!

The way it works... Teams work together to climb Mt. Olympus. There are 4 rounds of play. Each round includes the team members reading 2 myths, completing assignments that go with each myth and then as a team completing two obstacles before they can move on to the next round. The 4th round includes 2 myths with assignments but then instead of two obstacles, they will complete 1 Boulder Activity which is a bigger project that wraps up the unit.

The reason I am telling you... If the kids only worked on these things with me one hour a week, this could be a year long unit! :) So, as a way to shorten it up a bit, I am expecting all students to read their two myths and complete their assignments for each myth independently during the week and we will use our time together to discuss the myths and complete the obstacle projects and boulder project. I did tell them that I couldn't promise they would have time in school so they might have to bring it home and they all stayed anyway. If there is time during the day that they would work on these assignments or if you could take away some of their regular homework and have them do this instead, that would be great.

Thank you so much for sending me these kids. I am excited to see how it goes. My goal is to have the groups present their Boulder activities to classrooms so you can look for that as a finale of the unit!

Please let me know if you have questions. I forgot to tell the kids today that Myths 1 and 2 need to be complete by our next meeting which will be Tues. Feb. 22nd. Can you please pass that information on to them? Thanks again! :)

February Contract was sent home today!!! Please sign and return by Friday! Enjoy your discoveries!!!

Reading Contract
For February 2nd Through March 4th

I, _________________________ will read at home every day and will keep a log of my daily reading minutes in my agenda. My goal is to read ______________ (a minimum of 400) minutes for the time period of February 2nd through March 4th. My new reading range is

_____________-_____________

My parent(s) will check my reading minutes and sign my agenda at the end of every day. I will return it to school daily so my teacher can check it, too.

I will need to pass enough Accelerated Reading test(s) to earn the opportunity to participate in the second trimester reward. This reward is a trip to the National Hockey Center. I currently have ______________AR points accumulate for the second trimester and need to earn _____________ more points to meet my 12-point goal. I must earn at least a 60% accuracy rate on each test for it to qualify as passed. As of today, my overall second trimester accuracy score is ___________________.

In addition, I will need to complete thirteen of the sixteen grid activities on the back of this contract. The items written in bold type are mandatory. Also, this is the month of kindness and love. Our Home to School Connection will be 14 plus one. This task involves counting backwards from fourteen by twos and giving yourself and another person one compliment when you feel blue, stressed, or angry. Hopefully from there on, your feelings will be calm, your thinking will be under control, and your next action to your current situation will be inspired to search for reasonable compromises that have positive outcomes.

I will also need to sign up to participate as a broadcasting team member on WAEL. My task will be to assist in helping to present the pertinent information for the day.

Finally, I understand that to be eligible for a March reading contract reward, I must read, sign, and comply with the terms of this contract.

Remember: There are other school wide reading goals and rewards for the month of February and this monthly contract is meant to help you stay on task and accomplish these goals, too. Good luck and enjoy your success!
