Math: We have finished and tested on Unit 1.  Your child should have brought home their test on Thursday for you to sign.  During class last week, we began talking about congruent and similar figures.  We also discussed line symmetry.  This week, fourth graders will learn about lines, line segments, rays, kinds of quadrilaterals, perimeter and area.  They will be filling out a Unit 2 dictionary packet with math vocabulary words, definitions and memory clues.  This packet will be very helpful with class lessons and homework assignments.  They will have a homework assignment Monday-Thursday.  However, I do try to give them time in class to work on this and some students may even complete it in class.  Please continue to practice your multiplication facts nightly!

Night of the Twisters

In Social Students we are learning how to use a compass to find directions and location, which is an opening activity to our Maps and Globes Unit.  We are also researching tornadoes and how to be properly prepared for an emergency. In addition, we are reading the book, Night of the Twisters by Ivy Ruckman which is a wonderful story about the power of Mother Nature and the importance of making responsible decisions. These activities all fall under our Earth Studies Unit.  Feel free to ask your child about the first three chapters of the book.  Finally, please bring a flashlight to Social Studies class next Wednesday and Thursday as we will be reading Night of the Twisters by Ivy Ruckman in a very dark location with sounds of thunder, rain, and wind howling in the background.  It's my attempt to help students visualize the setting of the story (which will assist in making 'connections' and improve comprehension).  Enjoy the weekend!  FYI - Flashlights can be purchased at the dollar store for....one dollar!

CHAPERONES HAVE BEEN CHOSEN!!!

We drew names out of a bucket and the lucky winners chosen to be our chaperones for the Paddleboat trip are......drum roll please.........

Students and staff have been busy learning routines, schedules, curriculum, and about each other.

One of the new things the entire school has been busy learning about is PATH. PATH stands for Personal best, Accountable, Teamwork, and Honest. It is our code of conduct.? Students and staff are expected to come to school ready to give their personal best, hold themselves accountable for their actions, work as a team, and be honest about their behavior and abilities. Students caught on the PATH are given PATH tickets. We are all working to fill our PATH bucket. Once are PATH bucket is completely filled we will have a special "Choose what you learn" day at Pleasantview.

It is a great place to get to know some other parents and offer ideas to make Pleasantview the best it can be.? Hopefully you can join us.

Thursday, Sept. 13th is PIN night. PIN stands for Parent Information Night. This is great time to learn about your child's teachers and their expectations.? It is also a great time  to ask questions about classroom set up, activities, enrichment, communication, etc. This year we will be providing childcare while parents are attending  PIN night. Please plan on attending.
