Next Week

Social /Grammar:  Our main skills next week include defining distance and scale on a map. We will be using a map scale to determine the distance between locations. In our grammar classes, we will be examining simple verb tenses. We will come to understand that a verb in the present tense tells about action that is happening now or that happens over and over. A verb in the past tense tells about action that happened in the past and that many verbs in the past tense end with -ed.  A verb in the future tense tells about what will happen in the future. Verbs in the future tense use the helping verb ‘will’.

  • Math: This week in math, we will be working on comparing whole numbers, numbers to millions and making new groups for addition.  On Tuesday, we will be taking a quiz on concepts we have covered so far.  Watch for that quiz to come home on Wednesday or Thursday.  I have seen improvement in time test scores and love to hear that students are practicing their facts at home. Please take five minutes each night to go over multiplication or division facts.
  • Reading:  Our main skills next week include distinguishing fact from opinion and summarizing.  We will also be practicing using punctuation in fluency and learning about some greek and latin word parts. New reading logs went home today and will be due at the end of next week.  We had about 30 students missing the end of the month reward party today due to not turning their reading logs in.
