I Love to Read Month Activities
Student Reading BINGO Card - Readers will be encouraged to complete various activities on their BINGO cards. When a bingo is achieved they will turn in their sheets TO YOU for a small prize(we will distribute prizes to each classroom). Parent signatures will be required. After they get the prize from you have them bring their sheet to the Office and drop it in the BINGO box for a chance to win the PRINCIPAL’S CHAIR for a day. We will draw a new name each day and the winner will be announced on WAEL. BINGO sheets will be in your PO boxes on Jan. 30th.
Photo Contest - Students will be encouraged to participate in a photo contest. Rule sheets will be in your PO boxes on Jan. 30th.
Stop-Drop and Teacher Swap - On Feb. 3 at 9:00(Fri.), Feb. 10 at 9:25(Fri.), Feb. 16 at 1:10(Thurs.) and Feb. 23 at 1:35 (Thurs.) we will make an announcement to Stop-Drop and Teacher Swap. You will need to coordinate another classroom to swap with when the announcement is made. You will go and read a book to that classroom for 15 minutes (this is not a silent reading time for students, you should be reading to them). We would like the students to be surprised so please do not tell them what time this will be happening.
Cricket Trivia - The “Are you smarter than a 5th grader” question each morning on WAEL will be a trivia question about The Cricket in Times Square book. Grade levels will be coordinating details for collecting answers and distributing prizes.
Book Fair Lottery - During the Book Fair I will put a lottery ticket on a students desk letting them know they won a free book from the book fair!
Mystery Reader-At the end of each WAEL broadcast the week of Feb. 20th students will listen to one person reading a story. They need to guess who is reading the story each day. Sheets will be distributed so you can fill in the answer each day. All sheets must be turned in at the end of the day on Thrusday, Feb. 23rd. We will announce the winner on Friday, Feb. 24th on WAEL. The winning class will get to select a book for their room.
Community outreach - You will have an opportunity to have Sauk Rapids-Rice athletes come and read in your classroom. Football players will be reading to grades 3-5 on February 6th at 1:15. Girls from the swim team will be reading to grades K-2 on February 8th at 8:30. Please have a book ready for them to read.
Reading Celebration - On Friday, March 2 from 1:30 - 1:50 classrooms are invited for an all school read-a-thon. We will create a reading chain and students will read in the hallways or around the pods like we did last year. (It is also Dr. Seuss’ birthday which is Read Across America day).
