Writing the Purpose and Improvement Paragraphs

Tomorrow, we will be spending some time discovering how to write a quality Purpose and Improvement paragraph. Below are two examples that we will analyze. Please feel to refer to these as you begin to write your paragraphs.

Purpose

The purpose of my (name of invention) is to help babies keep their blanket with them at all times. The two loops in the belt make it easy for babies to keep thier favorite blanket and sippy cup with them at all times. As you know, a baby can get very cranky if they don't have their security blanket nearby, so it's important to assist them in keeping this valuable item so close as possible. Also, by keeping the blanket off the floor it helps to prevent germs from getting on the blanket and in the sippy cup. In addition, the ( name of invention) keeps the sippy cup from getting stepped on or tripping someone. Your baby will be happier and healthier with the (name of invention)!

Improvement

My (name of invention) will improve the quality of life by helping a baby stay germ free and become more independent. The (name of invention) will provide the baby with comfort knowing the blanket is close by and within reach. Keeping the blanket off of the ground will keep parents from always having to pick up the blanket for their child. Keeping the blanket off the ground will prevent the spreaad of germs and will help keep the baby healthy. This will help the family save money as they will not need to visit the doctor's office so often. The holder for the sippy cup will also help prevent the spread of germs by preventing the baby from sharing their sippy cup with others. Every parent needs a (name of invention) and so does every daycare facility. Get yours today!

Special Note from Mrs. Martin

Here is the grand total for Toys for Tots! $2,046.54 Wow!! Thank you to all of the classrooms for donating their crafts. I know teachers donated their personal funds to create crafts for their classrooms to create. This project would not have been as successful without your contributions!! This is is truly a school wide effort and it is appreciated. Thank you to all the classrooms for rearranging your schedules to come shop at the store. I know it was a crazy week:)

Special thanks goes out to:
~All of the families who donated crafts!
~Holly Anderst for helping put together and take apart the store.
~Lisa Popp for helping create the more complicated crafts. I know you put in more than a few hours with them.
~Colleen Mickelson for all of her hours sewing the cute head bands. They were a big seller!
~Fourth grade teachers for accomodating your schedules to fit the fourth graders into shifts to work the store.
~Ellen Fuller for making the huge check!!
~Sue Thering, the grandmother of a former PV student. Sue consistantly comes through with boxes and boxes of her fabulous crafts. Very much appreciated especially since she doesn't have grandchildren attending Pleasantview.

Good questions to ask your child...

What is our School to Home Connection this month? (Answer: December can be a very busy month so we are writing down our bedtime and our wake up time. It has been suggested that a nine and ten year old need a minimum of 8 hours of sleep per night and that ten to eleven hours is highly encouraged. Please check to see that your child is writing down this data in their agenda and calculating how many hours of sleep they obtained each night. This task is also good for reviewing the concept of calculating time. For more info. on the improtance of getting a good nights rest, check out this website http://kidshealth.org/kid/talk/qa/sleep.html. or click on kidshealth.org under 'Favorite Websites' and type in 'sleep' under the search area. Also, view http://www.helpguide.org/life/sleeping.htm

Good Night!
