I Love to Read Month Activities

Student Reading BINGO Card - Readers will be encouraged to complete various activities on their BINGO cards. When a bingo is achieved they will turn in their sheets TO YOU for a small prize(we will distribute prizes to each classroom). Parent signatures will be required. After they get the prize from you have them bring their sheet to the Office and drop it in the BINGO box for a chance to win the PRINCIPAL’S CHAIR for a day. We will draw a new name each day and the winner will be announced on WAEL (or at JumpStart). BINGO sheets will be made available on Febraury 2nd..

Photo Contest - Students will be encouraged to participate in a photo contest. Rule sheets will be in your made availble on February 2nd.

Stop-Drop and Read - On Feb. 6(Fri.), Feb. 12(Thurs.), Feb. 20(Fri.) and Feb. 27 (Fri.) we will make an announcement to Stop-Drop and Read. All students should stop what they are doing and read a book for 15 minutes. Students should carry a book with them at all times (even to Specialists) so they are prepared to read!

Locker Lottery - During the Book Fair I will put a note on a students locker or mailbox letting them know they won a free book from the book fair!

Give the Gift of Reading - There will be one book in 12 different gift bags that will be traveling around our school beginning February 9. We will have 2 different sets of bags... one set will only be exchanged with K-2 teachers and the other will travel among grades 3-5. When you get a bag, please read the story to your class and then think of a way to introduce the book another classroom. Record your introduction on a piece of paper, drop it in the bag and pass it on to another class. The new class should read the note, share the book, make a new note and keep passing it on.

Caught Reading - We will take photos of staff reading a book (with only their eyes showing) and classrooms need to guess the reader. We will show them at the end our WAEL broadcast the last week of Feb., post the photos outside Deanna’s office, and announce the mystery person at the end of the day.

Community outreach - You will have an opportunity to have SCSU athletes come and read in your classroom on February 3rd or 4th. .

Wild Country 99 will be sending one of their radio personalities to read to the kindergarten and first graders on February 18th.

Reading Celebration - On Monday, March 2 from 1:30 - 1:50 classrooms are invited for an all school read-a-thon in the gym to celebrate our month of reading! (It is also Dr. Seuss’ birthday which is Read Across America day).

Enjoy several great books!
