Coborn Cancer Center Program
Hi staff,
I received an email about a program through Coborn Cancer Center to help children of cancer patients learn to identify and express the feelings that they are having during this difficult time in their lives. Children who are between the ages of 6-11 and have a parent or primary caregiver diagnosed with cancer are eligible to participate. If you have a student in your classroom in this situation you may want to view the attached flyer and consider talking to their parent about this program. The program begins January 8th, lasts 6 weeks, and is free of charge. Here is a link you can also share with parents for more information. http://www.centracare.com/specialty_centers/cancer/
Thanks and Happy Holidays! AM

News from the Art Room
Happy Holidays!
Some holiday "throw-aways" we'd love to have in the art room are: yarn, yarn, yarn, tissue paper, shoe boxes, ribbons, Christmas cards, wrapping paper rolls, toilet paper rolls - just about anything. I'm also in need of plastic grocery bags.
Thank you!

First Trimester Accelerated Reader Reward
Monday, December 22, students who earned at least 9 AR points will participate in the reward. Students have already signed up for either sledding or a movie. They may bring sleds and put them on the loading dock when they arrive in the morning. Their sled should be labeled with their first and last name. After sledding, sleds will be placed on the loading dock to be picked up at the end of the day.
*In the event of cold weather,(colder that 0 degrees WITH the WINDCHILL)all students earning the reward will watch the movie.
During the reward, students who didn't not earn enough AR points will be reading AR books to help them achieve their goal for second trimester (10 accumulate points from all tests with 80% or above accuracy).
On Monday morning, there will be a message left at 258-1950 stating whether we will or will not be going sledding.

Page 11 of 11... if you need to run a second copy. Each student has a copy, but I'm placing these on the blog in case they lose their first copy and want to work on it over the holiday break.

First Trimester AR Sledding Party
On Monday, December 22nd the students that have earned nine AR points will have the option of going sledding at the high school or watching the movie, NIM's Island. We will leave for the high school at 10 AM and return at approximately high noon. The students may bring their own sled, as long as they drop the sled off at the back safety zone area before 7:50 AM. Bob will meet them their and will be instructing the kids to put their sleds in the trailer. Bob will be transporting the sleds up to the high school. We are asking that the students not bring their sleds on the bus in the morning or at the end of the day. Thanks you! Please put our name on your sled. The students that have not earned nine points will remain in the classroom with the opportunity to work toward meeting their second trimester goal.... 10 points.

Nifty Knitter Projects
We began our Nifty Knitter projects today. We are each going to make a hat and then the students may choose their own project in which to create. We are asking that each student bring in two skeins of yarn for their initial project. These make wonderful gifts and/or useful items for ourselves or someone else. Have fun with this project and enjoy it!

Inventing a Better Snowperson
Today, we learned about the importance of meeting a deadline, protecting your ideas, working in a group, and thinking creatively. Ask your child about our "Building a Better Snowpeson" activity. Keep thinking about what you are going to create as your invention. Enjoy!
P.S. Thank you Walz family for providing the TP!!!

Barnes & Noble Book Fair
Slide into Barnes and Noble between 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 4th for a cozy evening filled with books, children laughing and the aroma of fresh brewed coffee. Please come and listen to Mrs. Paasch, Mrs. Euteneuer, and Pleasantview Elementary teachers share their excitement about books by Laura Numeroff’s series of stories to children.
You might not recognize Laura Numeroff’s name but I’m sure you’ve heard of her books such as, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. Every thirty minutes, beginning at 4:30, a teacher will read one of the books from her series AND do an activity that corresponds to the story. A schedule of times and books will be posted on Mrs. Euteneuer’s website (http://www.isd47.org/~eutendea) under Book Fairs. Make sure you take some time to look at the great artwork produced by our own students that will be on display that evening. In addition, we will have a place for you to enter your Pleasantview students name for a drawing (prizes include an I Spy Spooky Mansion interactive game and delicious chocolate chunk cookies courtesy of Barnes & Noble).
Pleasantview will be earning money for new books as part of this event. Simply present a voucher at the cash register for any purchases and a percentage of the sale will be donated to our school. Vouchers will be sent home prior to the event and we will also be distributing them at Barnes & Noble that evening. You can also go the the district website www.isd47.org and print a voucher. You will find it located under Pleasantview What's happening. Vouchers will be accepted all day on December 4th or you can use the code to shop at Barnes & Noble online until December 9th so please feel free to give copies (of the voucher) to family and friends.
See you on December 4th!
