Next week:

Reading:  Our main skills we will cover this week will include main idea with details and expression.  We will also be practicing recognizing multiple meaning words.  Please make some time this week to check in with your student on how their progress is going towards their AR goal.  They should be at least half way there by the end of this week to be on pace with the end of the trimester.  Their tan colored AR tracking sheet should have all of their reading and testing information.  New reading logs went home today and will be due next Friday.
*Idea for help at home*  Ask your students about what they are reading!  This encourages them to talk about it and most importantly 'THINK' about their reading.  Examples of good questions to ask include...
What has happened in your story so far?
What has been your favorite part?
What can you tell me about some of the characters?
What do you think is going to happen next?
Where is your story taking place?
What questions do you have about your story?
Can you summarize the main events in your story so far?
What is the problem in your story?  How do think it will be resolved?

Writing: We are working hard writing persuasive essays in class.  These will be kept at school to show you at conference time.  We will be working on each step of the writing process together at school.  They may have some steps to finish at home if they are not caught up in class.

Reminder:  On the day that you are presenting, remember to bring in your invention, display board, and Invention Log from home.  You may store your invention, display board, and Invention Log in your teacher's room until it is time to present. All projects should go home at the end of the day on the 25th. A great idea would be to have your parents visit the Inventors' Congress from 1:15 PM - 1:55 PM on January 25th and go home with them at 1:55. This way you could take your invention and your display board home and beat the end of the day rush.
