An Example of a Persuasive Essay

No More Homework in the Fourth Grade

Fourth grade students have too many things to do after school.
Fourth grade students have responsibilities at home to take care of and finish. They help with dishes, cooking, cleaning, taking out the garage, making the beds, and watching their brothers and sisters. These chores need to be completed so that the family can remain organized and efficient. If fourth grade students are always doing homework, they don't have time to be a responsible citizen at home.

Fourth grade students need time to be physically active. Recent statements have been made that are indicating that many fourth grade students are not getting enough exercise. One, of several causes for this situation, is the fact that kids are spending too much time completing homework assignments. If kids are being asked to study every night, then they are missing out on the many benefits of running, jumping, playing, and being creative.

If fourth grade students would make the commitment to complete all of their assignments during the day with exceptional quality and accuracy, teachers and parents could come to the agreement to not assign homework. By each student demonstrating focused and on-task behavior during the day, students would complete all their necessary assignments and homework would not be needed. Also, if the fourth grade students continued to show mastery of each lesson, they would not need extra practice. Fourth grade students would really enjoy going home each night with an empty backpack and an evening free of schoolwork!

Let’s all work together to free ourselves of the hassles of
homework!

Persuasion Essay

A Later Bedtime Would Be Just  Fine
                    By C. Green
I am trying to convince you to change my bedtime to nine because I am responsible and mature. Right now my bedtime is to early because I am never tired at 8:30. Here are some reasonss that may change your mind.
   Reason 1#
I never have time to finish my shows. If my bedtime was changed to nine, I wouldn’t have to worry about getting ready for bed or having my snack. I can enjoy my show with no worries.

   Reason 2#
I would get more time to brush my teeth without rushing. It seems I never get enough time  to brush my teeth when I rush. If it was changed to nine, I could get my teeth sparkly clean!
    Reason 3#
I also would get more time to enjoy my snack without scarfing it down, it isn’t healthy to scarf down your snack. If it was changed to nine, I could enjoy a snack without dealing with other things.
If my bedtime was changed to nine, I would be delighted and delightful!

Ideas for the Persuasion Essay

Description of an Essay and Sample Topics
The following is an example of an outline of an essay:
I. Introduction-I would like very much to have my very own dog.
A. The dog we have now came into our family before I was born
B. Buster was friends with my older brother before he ever knew me.
II. Body-There are three reasons I think I should have my own dog.
A. Buster seems to belong to my older brother.
1. He always goes to Jerry first.
2. If my brother starts to leave the house, Buster always wants to go with him.
B. Both of us cannot go to different places at the same time with Buster.
1. It seems that every time I want to take Buster with me for a walk, Jerry has already left to take Buster somewhere else.
2. When I am home alone, I would like to have a dog that is loyal to me.
C. I think it is just as important for me to have a pet as it is for Jerry to have one.
1. Just as Jerry has, I can learn to be responsible for a pet
2. Just as Jerry has one, I could have my own loyal companion.
III. Conclusion-Therefore, I think it would be a good idea for me to have my own dog.
A. I would have a pet to care for and one to care for me.
B. The dog would get to know me from the beginning and be my loyal companion.
IV.  Call to Action - Let’s drive to Dan’s Boarding Kennel and purchase a new golden retriever, just like Buster.

Rox Reading

Pleasantview will be participating in the Rox Reading Program again this year. The program will begin on Monday, April 9th and continue through Sunday, May 6th. The rules are the same as last year.

You will need to assign a weekly goal for the number of minutes each student will need to read in order to qualify for prizes. We will place one set of Reading Program Calendars in your PO boxes next week so you can make copies for each student in your classroom. Students and parents will keep track and record their student's reading time on the weekly calendars. Students need to turn in their weekly calendar every Monday. If their calendar is turned in by Monday they will qualify for the weekly drawing to win prizes of Rox merchandise and the grand prize. One prize will be given out per week per classroom. At the end of the four weeks, ALL students who reached their reading goal for all 4 weeks will earn the grand prize of a free ticket to a St. Cloud Rox home game!
